With the Australian summer just around the corner, shorter haircuts and styles are trending up! From jaw skimming bobs to soft, shaggy, shoulder length mullets, to insanely cool 90s lobs and pixie crops, these short hairdos are giving us serious short hair inspo.
Although shorter hair requires a bit of upkeep, using the correct products, and with a few cut and styling tips, from celebrity hairstylist and our Co-Creative Director, Joey Scandizzo, short hair can be easy to maintain and the style update you need.
HOW CAN YOU WORK OUT IF SHORT HAIR WILL SUIT YOU?
“You need to play around with your hair before you cut it off. When your hair is freshly washed and blast dried, play around with it holding it at different lengths around your face,” says Joey Scandizzo, celebrity hairstylist and Co-Creative Director, ELEVEN Australia
“Tuck it behind your ears and pull bits out around your face and see what lengths accentuates your cheek bones, eyes and highlights your best features. If you are going for a big chop, you need to make sure you get the best style for your face shape that is tailored to you.” JS
“You need to have it regularly trimmed if we are talking pixie short. Usually it is the sides that are shortest and when they start to grow out, this can really bulk out the style or make it look quite round, which can make it look ‘mumsy’. Then you start to hate it and think you have to grow it out completely and you never consider short hair again!” JS
“Play around with different styling products with shorter hair and as you get a bit more length, use a different product that works for added length and texture. The great thing about this is that sometimes the less work you do to shorter styles, the better they look. You just need to make sure your hair is kept looking healthy and fresh and that you use the right product.” JS
“The French Girl Bob is one of the most requested bobs of 2021. Shorter than your typical jaw-skimming bob, and always kept clean and effortless looking. Opt for low fuss styling and just use our MIRACLE HAIR TREATMENT. If you have a natural wave or curl, just add KEEP MY CURL DEFINING CREAM to freshly washed hair and either leave to air dry or diffuse with a bit of heat”
“If you’re after a bit of texture and thicker looking hair, you can use I WANT BODY TEXTURE SPRAY, this is incredible for this style as it is a mix of sea salt spray and volume powder. You get the grit from the sea salt and then loads of volume from the powder. As it is a dry spray, it doesn’t weigh the hair down, so you have volume and texture all day/night!”
